The Saskatchewan Environment Industry and Managers Association again combined the Annual General Meeting with presentations of interest to environmental professionals and the environmental industry.

Attendees took advantage of the opportunity to engage with Anna Kessler, Policy Analyst, of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency’s (CEAA) Policy Development Sector following her presentation on the next steps in updating federal environmental assessment processes. On June 29, 2017, the Government of Canada released a discussion paper on the Review of Environmental and Regulatory Processes. Comments can be submitted online until August 28th.

During lunch, attendees enjoyed a presentation by Caitlin Brown, Geo-Environmental Engineer, and Diane Martens, Health, Safety, and Environment Project Manager, AREVA Resources Canada on the Decommissioning of the Cluff Lake Project. Cluff Lake was the first of the modern uranium mines and mills to go through a public inquiry before it entered operation, and it is the first uranium project to be moving towards inclusion in the Province’s institutional control program as an entire site as substantial progress has been made on the decommissioning. Following the AGM, the following officers were elected from the Board of Directors:

  • Patrick Legg of WSP Canada, President
  • Lois Miller of Trace Associates, Vice President
  • Ryan Riess of PINTER & Associates, Treasurer

Al Shpyth, SEIMA’s volunteer President for the past four years, is now the Past-President.
