What is The Green Team Program?

SEIMA and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration are pleased to offer student employment funding through the Green Team Program, funded through the environmental arm of the Student Summer Works (SSW) program. The Green Team program seeks to place Saskatchewan students in summer jobs that provide opportunities to develop their environmental knowledge and build their experience in Saskatchewan's green and prosperous economy.

Information For Students:

The hiring process is directly between the student and the employer. SEIMA has no role to play in this process. Qualifications being equal, priority will be given to Aboriginal students and students with disabilities.

However, you can download a list of Employers who have been approved for subsidies to hire high school and/or post secondary students just like you for last year's summer term. Use this list to contact directly these employers who may still be looking to hire students for these positions, or who will be looking for someone to fill similar positions during this or next summer. Find the latest list in the Download section above. Remember, there are often more positions available than those listed here, and by keeping these employers in mind you can gain valuable environmental work experience outside of the Green Team Program.

Upload your resume to the new SEIMA Employment Centre!

Also, check out our links to awards, contests and scholarships for students studying environmental topics or demonstrating environmental leadership. These and more are listed on the SEIMA/Stantec Student Chapter Page which can be found under the Membership tab.

Information For Employers:

For detailed information on the program, including application requirements, employer eligibility, student eligibility, and employment criteria, please download the Information Guide from the Download section above.

Note that there are two components to the Green Team SSW application process
: one standardized SSW Employer Application Form and one Green Team Environmental Component Application Form. Both forms must be completed and submitted together in order for your application to be considered. Please download the updated 2011 Information Guide for complete program details and changes.

  • The 2011 Green Team SSW application deadline is March 31st, 2011.
  • Please note that recent graduates are not eligible for subsidies under the Green Team program. Students employed with Green Team funds must be returning to school the following term.
  • Because the Green Team program is focused on hiring Aboriginal students and students with disabilities, employers should quote the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission Exemption Order number (EX09-08) in their job postings, which allows the Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration to target positions to these groups.
PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Successful applicants must meet three criteria. First, they will be employing the student in an activity or project that is related to the environment. This could range from conducting environmental research, to assisting with the design of a local park, to planning the clean-up of a community waterway. Second, successful applicants will have demonstrated that they will be seeking to hire Aboriginal students and/or students with disabilities in these positions (see the Recruitment Resources in the download section to start your student search). Thirdly, the application will show that the job provides a quality learning and development opportunity for the student.

The Green Team program will provide subsidies amounting to 75% of the student's budgeted wages and benefits, up to a maximum of $3,500 per full-time and $2,000 per part-time position.

Please refer to the 2011 Green Team Information Guide (downloadable above) for complete program details and eligibility requirements.
